Don't go to Waikiki
If you are interested in travelling to Hawaii, the first thing that you think of is probably Waikiki beach on Oahu. However, my recommendation is that you avoid Waikiki beach like the plague, unless you like large crowds of annoying people. I also recommend avoiding Honolulu as it is no different than any other large city like New York or L.A. My recommendation on where to go on the island of Oahu is the North Shore, this is a place that is much more laid back and a lot more like the island paradise that you were hoping for when you decided to vacation in Hawaii. The North Shore is where some world famous surfing takes place during winter months, during summer months it is mild and has great beaches to swim and sun and relax. In the area is also Waimea Falls which is neat little area where they have lots of wild plants and a cliff diving show which is pretty amazing. Another must see in the area is the town of Hale'iwa, which has great local feel to it. Next time you go to Oahu, enjoy yourself in the North Shore.
