I recommend that people visit the sunny Mission neighborhood when touring San Francisco. This eclectic neighborhood has hipster young professionals, Latino families, interesting restaurants and cafes, and the pleasant Dolores Park as well. It is accessible by MUNI bus and BART. There are delicious, low cost vegetarian snacks, street vendors with spicy mango and jicama, frozen treats in exotic flavors, tapas bars, or meaty burritos available from the corners. Bargain shoppers will find thrift stores and artists' instillation, occasional street theater, alternative music, like the SF-based old-time music performers All Wrecked Up, clubs, as well as cultural and political events. A great way to take a break from a short, whirlwind trip to San Francisco is to visit Osento, at 955 Valencia St., one of the few women-only bath houses, for a relaxing spa day (or spa hour) in a safe haven in the heart of a vivid, pulsing city.
