My grandparents lived in Frederiksted, St. Croix for over forty years before breaking down and moving to the mainland to be closer to family in case of emergency. The last time I went to visit them was to help pack and make sure everything was in order for the final move. As we did this mostly in the evenings, the afternoons were free for my grandfather and I to hit the beach bars, where he could toast farewell to his old cronies, and I could swim in the ocean. My favorites were the bars where you got a free shot of tequila if you stepped on a sea urchin. Fortunately, I never had opportunity to take advantage of that offer.
The restaurants were all wonderful. It's fantastic to sit at your table with an appetizer and watch as your entree comes in off the dock in front of you. Talk about fresh!
I love travel, but of all the places I've been, nowhere beats St. Croix for sun, fun, and relaxation. I will truly miss my family reunions in paradise.
