Maine islands
Always had the fantasy of being a castaway but its so beautiful you don't want to be rescued?. Well, live your fantasy of the coast of Maine on the Maine Island Trail.
A string of beautiful islands with picturesque rocks and graceful trees awaits you. No expensive yacht is required, just a canoe or sea kayak to reach the islands to camp on them.
No permits are required but some camping is on private land in addition to the public sites.
To camp on the private land you need to join the Maine Island Trail Association which publishes a comprehensive guide which is available for the membership fee of $45.00 per individual.(www.mita.org). Fishing is available for striped bass and bluefish. You might be surprised to see a seal keeping you company as their puppy like heads break the water. Look
to the sky for glimpses of a soaring eagles and other interesting seabirds. At night the gentle pulse of the ocean will lure you to sleep as the waves encircle the rocks in their curling embrace.
