Precautions against muggers

Wear a money belt, and keep all your valuables in it. At the same time, get a cheap wallet / purse, and fill it with a few low value notes, as well as any expired credit cards etc. you can get hold of.

Add a wad of supermarket receipts etc. Anything to make it look like it has been well used. You can even try cancelling a few valid cards, and getting replacements, so that you can fill the wallet / purse with the now-cancelled originals.

Keep this in a readily accessible pocket, and, if the situation should ever occur and you get mugged, give them your 'throw-away' wallet.

With any luck, the presence of a number of cards in the wallet / purse should persuade the muggers that they've got what they need, and they'll disappear quickly.

Remember, they're very nervous, and the longer they spend mugging you, the more chance they're going to get caught. The quicker you give them an excuse to get away the quicker they'll take it.
