Hawaii - General Travel Dos and Don'ts
Visiting the glorious state of Hawaii is quite an adventure, but unless you are daring enough to break out of the mold of going to the same places, seeing the same sights, and trying the same things - your vacation will never truly be yours.
Do
* Explore the shops on Waikiki Beach. They may be very expensive, and a little outside your taste range - but you don't get the opportunity to experience high-class shopping like this everyday, and window shopping costs you nothing but your own time.
* Rent your own car. Tours can only take you so far, there will be places you will want to stay that the tours skim over. There will be places you want to visit that tours do not go at all, and having your own wheels allow you to go there when you want, and leave when you want.
Don?t
* See Pearl Harbor during the middle of the days on weekends. You will be in line for HOURS, you will most likely miss the opportunity to visit the USS Arizona memorial, and you will be jammed into every exhibit with everyone else - and all the tour groups will get in ahead of you.
* Eat National Chain food. Simple. Don't go to Hawaii and eat McDonalds - you will not experience the food native to the islands, you will spend as much as if you HAD gone to a more expensive establishment, and you will get heartburn to boot!
