Nassau in the Bahamas
Nassau, Bahamas. It is a little tourist-y, but if you are willing to do a bit of walking you can shop and visit some beautiful non-commercial beach areas. I would not take any of the offers for a cab ride to a beach etc. The best way to see the city is on foot, or possibly a horse and buggy ride. I would suggest that you walk around the outskirts of the island, where you will find many quaint little local stands and attractions.
If you are in the main Carnival/Royal Caribbean port area leave the tourist information spot and head east about 7 blocks. Stop in at the Straw Market for some great buys, but never take the first offer. They have every kind of high end knock off purse that you can buy for approximately $50. It is also a great place to find interesting jewelry (not silver/gold) for a fraction of the cost that you will find it in the shops. If you are in the mood for Americanized food, stop in at Senor Frogs and definitely try the fish tacos.
From Senor Frogs follow the sidewalk 5 and 10 blocks until you see unmarked beaches on your right; and then jump in! That’s where the locals hang out.
